Going to Galveston Texas? Stop at Miller's Seawall Grill and grab a huge slice of chocolate cake. I did. Rumor is it's made by the owner.

Sightseeing, taking a dip in the Gulf, or partying at the Mardi Gras tends to make a person hungry. Hunger and my sister drove me to the grill. The place where I discovered chocolate overload cake.

Alas, it was not meant to be. Discovered, yes. Tasted, no. Fear not. There is a happy ending to my tale of woe...eventually.

Chocolate Cake Location

My desert-dwelling sister loves to visit the island of her birth. So we took a trip to historic Galveston Texas a few months ago.

We did touristy stuff like riding the ferry and walking along the seawall. Soon hunger overtook us. So we began our search.

The dessert dweller spotted Miller's Seawall Grill. Perfect, we could eat while gawking at the Gulf!

Got my menu. Started searching for the dessert section. Priorities! Naturally, my entree choice hinged on whether I needed to leave room for dessert.

Sure enough, there it was, chocolate overload cake. My mouth was watering. I'd seen a couple enjoying a piece of Italian cream cheese cake. It looked really good.

Ohh boy, I figured the chocolate cake was going to be awesome.

Then the waiter delivered the terrible news. No chocolate left! A crushing blow. But I vowed to return, especially after tasting the fabulous slice of cake my sister and mother shared.

Chocolate Overload Cake

picture of chocolate cake from Miller's Grill Galveston Texas And return I did! This time I secured a piece and returned home with it. Finally, I was going to taste that elusive cake.

It was worth the wait. Three layers of dark chocolate cake. Moist and dense. Each layer covered in a lighter chocolate frosting. Chocolate drizzle added before serving.

It was delicious. Tasted homemade and fresh.

Good thing it was a huge slice. I had a lot of eager tasters circling like vultures. Both my sisters said it was amazing.

Did it live up to its name? Chocolate overload, not for me. But then I have a hollow leg when it comes to chocolate. It was quite good. But not intense enough for me to experience overload.

So don't let the name intimidate you. Drop in and give it a try.

Non-chocoholic in your group? Go for the Italian cake. Or try the cheesecake. Then drop me a note, please. I haven't tried it yet!

Visit Galveston and experience all the island has to offer. Then visit the grill for a chocolate thrill. Both are worth the trouble of traveling.
