I want my bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet... Chili's molten chocolate cake, hot fudge sauce.

Yep, Chili's restaurant does a pretty good take on the chocolate lava cake.

How does this grab you?

A chocolate cinder cone shaped cake filled with hot fudge lava, capped with vanilla ice cream encased in a chocolate shell.

Sounds tasty, right?

It is. And quite large, so bring help.

Do not try to conquer this mountain of molten madness by yourself!

Eat light if you're going to take on this softball sized dessert.

Or better yet, drop by with a friend and an empty stomach.

Molten Chocolate Cake

In order to fulfill my chocolate reviews duties, I made a special trip to a Chili's restaurant.

Truth is I just wanted an excuse. I had already eaten their version of chocolate lava cake, several times.

Just needed to refresh my memory. You know, so I could more accurately describe it.

It's a beautiful thing.

The plate is decorated with chocolate and caramel swirls. Then a warm, mini chocolate cake, containing a pool of hot fudge lava is placed on the plate.

The cake is topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in a crisp chocolate shell.

That photo, up there, is of the one my mother and I bravely attempted to master.

I rolled the mega scoop her way. I concentrated on the cake.

Sadly, we were defeated. We came within 2 or 3 bites of victory. But we had to concede defeat or go to the emergency room.

We were bested by that molten monster but we'll be back!

Chocolate Lava Cake

This should appeal to just about every dessert loving human.

Chocolate lover, this semi-sweet dessert is rich and satisfying.

Not that in to chocolate? The vanilla ice cream helps to cut the chocolate.

Vanilla fan? Just claim the scoop and leave the cake to your dark chocolate loving companion. Or order the white chocolate molten cake!

This chocolate lava cake has only one shortcoming. It's a little spongy, a denser cake would probably be better. But that minor flaw is covered by all the chocolate.
